Accessibility at Pressbooks

The Pressbooks team is committed to practices that ensure all people, including those with disabilities, can benefit from the knowledge-sharing and creative expression that happen through our platform. In particular, we strive to make software that is accessible to both creators and readers. We understand accessibility and inclusive design to be holistic, proactive processes that must be included in our product specifications and development workflows. As the maintainers of a popular publishing tool, we are always looking for ways to make it easier for Pressbooks users to create and publish accessible content.

With this in mind, we have worked with accessibility and inclusive design experts at OCAD University’s Inclusive Design Research Centre, the University of Washington’s DO-IT Center, BCcampus, the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the University of Texas at Arlington, and elsewhere to identify areas for improvement.

If you are aware of an accessibility issue with the Pressooks platform, please let us know by filing a bug in our main GitHub repository.

VPAT Reports

We published our first Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) in 2019. Our most recent VPAT reports document our compliance with WCAG 2.2 guidelines at the A and AA levels and cover the authoring platform and the reading interface.
